Google suggestion

We all know how google plays a important role in our life. IF you been using google then you must have realized that they are now using the google suggestion which is basically built with the help of AJAX technology. Here as you enter your keywords , google suggesion suggests the most relevant results before you hit enter. So that while you are typing , if the suggestion you get is what you desired then you do not need to continue typing, just select the suggestion and you are done. Well along with the suggestion , google suggest also provides the number of results your query would get. This is amazing isn't it?

OK i am not here to talk about this. Actually i was trying to search out something and the google suggestions top result made me Laugh Out Loud.

I was typing "How to" and the top suggestion i received was "How to get pregnant". It was damm funny. I think this is why microsoft came up with thier decesion search engine.

PS : There isn't anything wrong with the google suggestion result, but it was totally ROFL moment. Attaching here the screen shot i took.

Sony Ericsson's promotional scheme?? Laptops for FREE??

some days back i received an e-mail. It had this image attachment , which speaks for itself.

Giving away laptops for FREE if you forward to 8 emails..?? WOW this got to be superb. Sony Ericsson Guys are very generous i must say.
Although this image tells us everything what we need to do but has no details when we would get our Free laptop , nor it has any address (not the email , of course the physical location).

For all those who forward this email to all their friends, with the hope of winning the lappy, I dnt want to break your heart ;) and so let us assume that you will soon get your price for the valuable time you spent to sent the emails.

But the question still arises...

So after i send the email, how long would i have to wait to claim my laptop.??

You might say , we got the email address of the person who suppose to be person in charge of this promotional scheme. We can always ask for a reply.

But will this help.??

This post isn't about when you will get the laptop or whether you will get it or not. I choose to write about this because i really liked something in this email which i would like to share..

1) I am quite sure , atleast from the email address i could see from the fwd , most of these people who froward the mail are educated and am sure would be possessing a good education qualification. So they got lure away for this FREE scheme. So this proves that well learned people also got a tiny miny space in their brains which get carried away when they hear / read "FREE". OK enough of all this shit from me..Let me come to the main point.

2) I like this ad because , it is so nicely put up and the author gets a nice collection of data. All the email ID's now a days are so useful. This is a beautiful way to collect data. This is what attracted my attention.

Hope all get their laptops soon... All the best.

Motto of Life.

My friend peter suggested this awesome post, and i could not resist myself to copy and post it here..I found the post from here

This post is something which gives a meaning to what life is and how we can make it more beautiful

When things in your life seem almost too much to handle, when 24 Hours in a day are not enough, remember the mayonnaise jar . . . and the coffee.

A professor stood before his Philosophy class and had some items in front of him.

When the class began, wordlessly, he picked up a very large and empty mayonnaise jar and proceeded to fill it with golf balls.

He then asked the students if the jar was full.

They agreed that it was.

The professor then picked up a box of pebbles and poured them into the jar.

He shook the jar lightly. The pebbles rolled into the open areas between the golf balls.

He then asked the students again if the jar was full.

They agreed it was.

The professor next picked up a box of sand and poured it into the jar.

Of course, the sand filled up everything else.

He asked once more if the jar was full.

The students responded with an unanimous “yes.”

The professor then produced two cups of coffee from under the table and poured the entire contents into the jar, effectively filling the empty space between the sand.

The students laughed.

“Now,” said the professor, as the laughter subsided, “I want you to recognize that this jar represents your life.

“The golf balls are the important things - your God, family, your children, your health, your friends, and your favorite passions - things that if everything else was lost and only they remained, your life would still be full.

“The pebbles are the other things that matter like your job, your house, and your car.

“The sand is everything else–the small stuff.

“If you put the sand into the jar first,” he continued, “there is no room for the pebbles or the golf balls.

“The same goes for life. “If you spend all your time and energy on the small
stuff, you will never have room for the things that are important to you.

“Pay attention to the things that are critical to your happiness.

“Play with your children”

“Take time to get medical checkups”.

“Take your partner out to dinner”.

“Play another 18″.

“There will always be time to clean the house and fix the disposal”

“Take care of the golf balls first, the things that really matter”

“Set your priorities”

“The rest is just sand.”

One of the students raised her hand and inquired what the coffee represented.

The professor smiled. “I’m glad you asked.

“It just goes to show you that no matter how full your life may seem, there’s always room for a cup of coffee with a FRIEND “

Please share this with someone you care about.

Simple CSS tricks for IE

All those who are familiar with web designing will know about cross browser issues. You start designing a beautiful layout with CSS and after much testing in Firefox when you are satisfied with the results, you realize all those efforts are in vain, just to find out that the design looks ugly in IE or some other browser like opera or safari. (Most of the time it is IE).

I had the same problem with IE. So how can we overcome issues in such situations?

1) Firefox Addon to make life easier

First thing first. Firefox is the most widely used browser among web designers. It provides very useful sets of Addons like the Web developer toolbar , firebug which are a must to assure easy , smooth coding.

The next thing is to make sure your css looks perfect both in firefox and IE. The IE tab addon for firefox can come to rescue here. You can download it here. You do not need to have FF and IE simultaneously open for this. A small FF icon at the bottom right of your browser , when clicked changes to IE tab. So you can easily test how your CSS would appear in IE. Another click on the icon and you are back to FF.

2) The centering Issue.

Now days since everyone mostly uses a 1024 * 786 Resolution or higher monitors , the basic width of the website mostly considered is 960px. For this we define a div tag which will include the entire web page mostly called as the body-wrap or container. (The div name can be anything depending on your choice.)

Your css will look like this :

body {

margin : 0px;
padding:0px;
background-color:#FFFFFF;

}

#body-wrap {

Width : 960px;
height:auto;
margin-left : auto; /* this will assure that your main body or the layout is centered to the */
margin-right:auto; /*main browser window.. */

}

The above code will work well for FF , however it will not work for IE. IE would not consider it centered and continue displaying it left aligned.

To make it work for IE we need to introduce small changes to our css

So our CSS would look like this :

body {

text-align : center; /* For IE
margin : 0px;
padding:0px;
background-color:#FFFFFF;

}

#body-wrap {

Width : 960px;
height:auto;
margin-left : auto; /* this will assure that your main body or the layout is centered to the */
margin-right:auto; /*main browser window.. */
text-align : left /* this will counter the body center.

}

The above small change to the code will do the trick.

Well there are a lot of problems that occur in IE , this is one of the basic and if not known may create a lot of frustration. Hope this helps.

Gmail-down for some time

Gmail is now the standard email service most of us use. May be for personal or business purpose it is fastest and easiest. some time back when i was online on gmail, one of my friend Peter asked me to check if i could open the gmail inbox. Now since i was in gmail and peter asked me in gmail chat, i bluntly said i could, but soon later when i tried to open inbox, and i got 500 - temporary error. I then tried to refresh the page several times and i was told to try again later. I experienced this for the first time.
Well this is not the issue.

What if gmail is down for entire day.?? It will affect the business of many people. May be lots of money loss.
For example if Mr X applies for some contract in a Company, and the Co. replies with a Yes and also asks for an immediate reply , if gmail were down , Mr X would not be able to reply and loose the contract.

What else problems would users face..??
